KENNY BENMORE RISES TO THE CHALLENGE – AND SHRINKS!

Kenny Benmore is Commercial Director of Central Window Cleaning Company, and is a well-known and well-liked character in the High Level Window Cleaning Industry.

But these days there’s something different about him.

With over 30 years in the business, he’s steadily worked his way up the professional ladder, building connections with many of London’s key Window Cleaning Companies.

His depth of knowledge is incontestable, and his hard-won skills are undeniable – but people who’ve known him for years find that, in many respects, Kenny is a new man. And it’s all down to something you might think is the last thing Kenny would need: training.

‘I took on the role as Commercial Director in 2007,’ said Kenny, ‘and I found myself responsible for the development of Health and Safety Provision within the company. This presented a number of challenges.’

He decided to embark on a initial Three Year Training Plan, and he was keen to include his own personal development within the provision of professional qualifications for other members of staff.

‘I wanted all of Central’s Window Cleaners to know that I was working with them, learning alongside them, gaining essential qualifications in an industry that’s becoming more and more competitive.’

Kenny got together with Working at Height Consultant Andrew Willis and between them they developed a structured training programme.

‘A Training Needs Analysis was completed on all staff,’ said Kenny, ‘and we agreed on a selection of training modules. Andrew secured over 30K pounds of Government Funding for Central, which allowed us to put all our window cleaners through the much-talked-about City and Guilds Level 2 Certification.

This was personally developed by Andrew within his role as a Trainer and A1 Assessor with IMPACT 43 Group, which holds a service partnership with Merton and South Thames College.’

The association between Central and Andrew has been very successful.
‘Andrew is very fond of the acronym KPEQ=C,’ says Kenny. ‘It stands for Knowledge + Practical Experience + Qualifications = Competency. Just a bit of fun, but it’s clearly a winning formula!’

For a bit of fun, KPEQ=C has had a dramatic effect on staff motivation, and has developed across and into middle management. There is now an IOSH 4 day Working Safely Course and NEBOSH for managers
Kenny has also noticed an additional, more personal benefit – and so has everyone else!

‘Over the last year, one particularly dramatic change has become obvious to everyone who’s come into contact with me. As my new role became more demanding, I set myself an extra challenge – lose some weight. And I reckon I’ve not done too badly: there’s 7 stones less of me these days!

Clearly the challenges of High Level Window Cleaning and the energy required to meet them can pay some unexpected and very welcome dividends! Congratulations on the weight loss, Kenny.
